Education & Experience

Jonathan Freije is an attorney who grew up in Indianapolis, but spent his formative middle school and high school years in Kenya.

Jonathan graduated Summa Cum Laude from the John Wesley Honors College at Indiana Wesleyan University in 2011, where he studied Business Administration and Economics. During his undergraduate studies, he delivered a presentation at the Christian Business Faculty Association’s 2010 National Conference, where his submission earned the Best Student Paper award. Furthermore, upon graduation, he was honored with the Carl Shepherd Most Outstanding Division of Business Major award.

Jonathan went straight to graduate school, studying philanthropy and nonprofit management. In 2013, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and Summa Cum Laude from the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. During graduate school, he participated in a capstone project to research and write a tax and economic impact study of the Indianapolis International Airport on Hendricks County and presented the findings to Indianapolis Airport Authority board members. Jonathan has a graduate certificate in Negotiation and Dispute Resolution.

Jonathan joined Shepherd Community Center on the near eastside of Indianapolis as their Grants Manager in 2014. Up until 2017, he secured over $1.5 million in grant awards for the organization, concluding his time there with a successful grant proposal for $7.5 million. He left Shepherd and worked in Kenya from 2017 to 2019, as the representative of the Friends of Tenwek Foundation.

Coming back from Kenya, Jonathan decided to continue working on independent grantwriting projects but also make a significant career transition. Looking for greater challenges, he attended the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis.

In the summer of 2021, Jonathan served as a Judicial Extern with both Magistrate Judge Mark Dinsmore at the United States District Court and Justice Geoffrey Slaughter at the Indiana Supreme Court. During law school, he also worked as a Law Clerk at Coots, Henke & Wheeler and as a Fall Associate at Sprunger & Sprunger, assisting with litigation drafting and legal research. He actively participated in moot court competition while in law school, notably the Staton Moot Court Competition in 2021, where his advocacy skills earned him the distinguished Order of the Barrister. He graduated with a Juris Doctor in May 2023.

Starting in August 2023, Jonathan worked at the Office of the Indiana Attorney General as a Deputy Attorney General, defending the State of Indiana and its employees against civil litigation.

Jonathan joined Sprunger & Sprunger in May 2025, and is serving Pendleton and the surrounding area. His primary areas of practice include Business Law, Estate Planning & Administration, Mediation, Real Estate, Philanthropy, Constitutional Law, and Personal Injury & Property Damage.

Jonathan currently resides in Fishers, Indiana, with his wife and two daughters. In his free time, he enjoys listening to U.S. Supreme Court oral arguments, hiking, traveling, and pretending to be whatever animal his oldest daughter decides he needs to be.
